it’s that time again. after cautious backup, testing 10.5.1 on the imac. anticipated risks: quartz+python broken, broken tiger x11 not fixed, etc... also reinstall preferences, libraries, find leopard updated apps, learning period, wasted time, etc... ransom of wishful expectations of progress!
this day other projects: data to test a new cnc setup for copper plates, four new ulysses traces for recent wet paper sheets, call with iannis in kerkera, website update.

mifu, mi fei, mifou, mifoo, mifumi, ufim

about mifou... mifu was a legendary, excentric chinese scholar of the tang period. very little of his work is known. the piece attributed to him shows algorithmic/stylistic traces more later.
a sample of my activities over the weekend:
• discovering that a disk failure was in fact its power supply failure: the disk works in fact
• prepare the imac for leoppard upgrade, moving things among and off disks, burning dvds
• start two blogs, install supporting software, conference call with iannis in kerkera
• trace patterns on wet paper sheets with tatiana
• plan for a new website for tatiana
• plan an update for my website
• update this blog
• plan for the two shows at the bloch museum
• plan for thanksgiving
• fix a mechanical glitch in a sand piece
• cook red pepper risotto

new collaboration
i am working with tatiana ginsberg and exploring two paper concepts. in the first, we ask ulysses to trace slowly over recently formed sheets of paper pulp. in the second, i create string patterns embedded into wet pulp, the pulp shrinks as it dries, and the string creates tensions and restrains the shrinkage, creating in fact surprising warps in the third dimension.
